The Casio Mini, the World's First Personal Calculator . In 1972, Casio introduced the world's first personal calculator. Featuring single-chip large-area integrated (LSI) circuits, a six-digit display, and simple components, it was a quarter the size of mainstream models at the time and, at 12,800 yen, cost only a third of the price of competing products. The Casio Mini was a huge success, selling one million units within 10 months of its introduction, and total sales reached six million over the series' lifetime. With the Casio Mini, the calculator went beyond being just office equipment to becoming a part of everyday life as a personal household item. In 2008, the Casio Mini was named a Key Historical Material of Science and Technology (or Heritage of Future Technology) by the National Museum of Nature and Science in Tokyo.
